Juvederm at STARS Plastic Surgery
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler. It is used to improve facial folds and wrinkles. As we age, and smile we tend to develop pronounced facial Nasolabial folds. We also begin to lose volume in our lips leaving them wrinkled and thin in appearance.
How does Juvederm work?
Juvederm contains an active ingredient naturally produced in the body called Hyaluronic Acid. Aging reducing the amount of this substance produced in the body, causing loss of volume, and increased wrinkles. Juvederm acts as a filler adding volume via injection to those problematic areas.
How long does Juvederm last?
Juvederm can last one to two years depending on which Juvederm product is used. Juvederm Ultra XC adds volume, and Juvederm Volbella XC is best for vertical lines above the lip. The STARS Plastic Surgery Physicians will go over the different types of dermal fillers and give you their recommendation based on your needs.
Do the Juvederm Filler injections hurt?
Juvederm products marked “XC” contain a numbing agent called Lidocaine. It is specifically formulated to reduce the pain associated with the injection process. Our physicians, and their specially trained staff can also provide an additional numbing cream or ice pack to help reduce pain felt by the injections. Typically, patients at STARS Plastic Surgery do well with these injections.
Who shouldn’t use Juvederm?
Do not receive JUVÉDERM® injectable gel fillers if you have a history of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), or if you are allergic to lidocaine or the proteins (Gram-positive bacterial proteins) used to make hyaluronic acid (HA) in JUVÉDERM® injectable gel fillers. (info courtesy JUVÉDERM®)
