Breast Reduction

If a woman feels that her breasts are too large, breast reduction surgery can effectively reduce the size of her breasts and enhance their shape.
STARS Plastic Surgery specializes in this particular procedure and will make short incisions on the breast to remove excess breast fat and skin. The aftermath of this surgery is not only smaller breasts, but ones that are more lifted and better-shaped. Not only will women appreciate the cosmetic results, but they will notice diminished pain and discomfort that came as a result of large breasts.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

It is important to find a highly skilled surgeon who has experience with this procedure. It is important to maintain a good blood supply to the nipple-areola complex as there is a risk of discoloration and loss of sensation when blood flow is restricted. Liposuction removes the excess fat, and the loose skin will be excised and tightened to form the newly shaped breasts. This procedure corrects an issue of breast asymmetry.

INCISION PLACEMENT

The most common incision for breast reduction is what they call “the anchor,” or a vertical T. With this kind of approach, the incision is made around the areola, extends vertically down to the breast crease, and then is followed by another horizontal incision along the direction of the fold. The areola repositions once the breasts have been resized and recurved. A lift will also place the breasts higher on the chest.

DURING/AFTER SURGERY

Breast reduction is always done in an accredited surgical center under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. The surgery usually takes about 2 to 4 hours. For the first several weeks, the surgeon will recommend the use of a compression bra to protect the breasts. Patients may go back to work within 7-10 days and may resume physical activities (such as exercise) between 6-8 weeks post-operative. Results following a breast reduction are usually visible immediately after the surgery. Nipple sensitivity will gradually return within the first year.

Breast Reduction FAQs

How Long Does Breast Reduction Last?
Breast reduction is a long-term solution for patients who are affected with excessively large breasts. In cases where there is significant weight gain, the results may be compromised, just like any cosmetic procedure that modifies body shape. Natural aging and gravity will take their toll over time and will still affect the breasts with or without the reduction. It is important to maintain a good health routine so that the enhancement lasts for a long time.
When You Get A Breast Reduction Do They Make Your Nipples Smaller?
For women with larger breasts, the areola is also excessively large. In a breast reduction surgery, an areola reduction also may occur. An incision surrounds the areola while the surgeon trims excess skin for optimum proportionality to the breasts’ new shape.
How Many Cup Sizes Can You Go Down With Breast Reduction?
The amount of reduction varies depending on the doctor’s initial evaluation and the patient’s preference. Often, the procedure results in a one or two cup size reduction from the original breast size.
How long does it take to recover from a breast reduction?
Most patients can return to light activities within 𝟭-𝟮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀, while more strenuous activities may take 4-6 weeks to resume. Full recovery, including the final appearance of your breasts and any lingering side effects like numbness, can 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. Always follow your surgeon’s specific guidelines for post-operative care to achieve the best healing and results.
What size breasts qualify for breast reduction surgery?
There is no specific cup size that qualifies someone for a breast reduction. The decision is based on the symptoms and physical discomfort caused by large breasts, as well as aesthetic or psychological concerns. If you're considering a breast reduction, it's important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to assess your situation and determine whether you are a good candidate for the surgery. The surgeon will evaluate factors such as your breast size, the amount of tissue to be removed, your health, and your specific needs to help you make an informed decision.
Is breast reduction surgery worth it?
For many women, breast reduction surgery is highly worthwhile, as it brings both physical and emotional benefits. It can improve comfort, self-esteem, and overall well-being, especially for those who experience chronic pain or discomfort from large breasts. However, it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons based on your individual circumstances. Consider the potential benefits, risks, and recovery process. Consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon is crucial to determine if you are a good candidate and to discuss your goals, expectations, and any potential challenges. If you are experiencing significant physical discomfort or emotional distress due to large breasts, breast reduction surgery can be a life-changing procedure that improves both your physical and psychological health.
