What is a Mommy Makeover?
You’ve heard it on social media. You’ve seen the celebrity transformations. Some of your friends even may have had one. But what actually IS a Mommy Makeover and…do you need one?
Motherhood is an incredible gift and our experiences while having and raising children (both good and bad) create some of the most precious memories of our lives. For most women, while they absolutely love their children, they don’t necessarily love the changes of their post-pregnancy body. For some, these changes are so different it can even feel like looking at a stranger when standing in front of a mirror. This “new normal” can translate into feelings of decreased self-confidence and even embarrassment. If this is you, a mommy makeover can help!
Instead of just one procedure, a mommy makeover is actually a combination of different procedures designed to improve the physical changes that happen with pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is fully customized to you – your friend’s mommy makeover will likely be different than yours.
Components of a Mommy Makeover
Typically, a mommy makeover includes some form of tummy and breast surgery because the breasts and abdomen are the two areas affected most during pregnancy. Hormonal changes cause the breasts to grow up to 1 cup size or more to accommodate breastfeeding after delivery. The abdominal muscles and skin stretch as the baby grows. Additional fat is deposited especially in the hips and buttock area to store energy for breastfeeding. But returning to “normal” means that there are significant losses of volume in both the breasts and abdomen. The abdominal layers may not bounce back. There may be noticeably sagging skin in the breasts and belly. Loss of excess baby weight can cause sagging in the arms, thighs and buttocks. While breast and abdominal surgeries are common, a mommy makeover doesn’t have to just stop there. It may include:
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Mini-Tummy Tuck
Breast Lift
Breast Augmentation
Breast Lift with Augmentation
Liposuction
Vaginal rejuvenation
Labiaplasty
Additional body contouring procedures (arm lift, thigh lift, Brazilian butt lift)
Your plastic surgeon will work with you to select a combination of procedures that will have you feeling your best and address the areas that matter most to you. They will walk with you through the procedure and recovery, ensuring that you get the best possible result. Most mommy makeovers can be completed in just one operation but some require multiple sessions for safety reasons.
